The purpose of restorative dentistry is to bring back the health and vitality to your smile. This can be done in a number of ways, depending on the specific problem you face.
BRIDGES
Bridges replace sections of missing teeth and help to support remaining teeth and keep them in their proper position. Bridges are a long term solution which can help prevent the cycle of problems that occur when just one tooth is missing, such as shifting and drifting of remaining teeth, decay and periodontal bone loss. Unlike dentures, a bridge is not removable, giving increased support and stability within the mouth.
When a lost tooth or teeth are replaced with bridgework, the teeth on either side of the gap must be crowned to serve as reinforced anchors to hold the bridge in place.
CROWNS
A crown or ‘cap’ is used to completely cover a damaged tooth and may be used for aesthetic or functional reasons to restore it to its natural colour, shape and strength. Besides strengthening a severely broken down tooth, crowns can also be used to improve the appearance, shape and alignment of teeth. Crowns are often used to strengthen root canal-treated teeth as these teeth are more brittle and likely to fracture. Crowns may also be used in cases of large irritable fillings, aging teeth or improper bite due to excessive grinding of teeth.
At Bhawani’s Dental, we offer a range of materials and typically use Zirconia strong ceramic crowns and bridges for back teeth and Emax crowns with layered porcelain for front teeth.
VENEERS
Porcelain veneers are an ideal solution to cosmetically improve a smile while still maintaining healthy tooth structure. Veneers are thin, tooth coloured porcelain shells that are custom-made to bond to the front surface of your teeth. Veneers can best be described as being like false fingernails for your smile.

COMPOSITE FILLINGS
At Bhawani’s Dental, we don’t use amalgam (metal) fillings, opting instead for the metal-free and more aesthetic composite (white) fillings. Composite material looks just like your natural tooth enamel and can also be used as an inlay or onlay to cover old amalgam fillings or fix minor defects.
